About This Spot

Stepping up to Royal Carryout, you’ll find a familiar rhythm humming quietly behind the bustle. This is a place where time moves at its own pace—steady, no-frills, alive with the comfortable kind of energy that only a neighborhood staple can hold. The windows reveal glimpses of the busy kitchen, where orders are handled with care and there’s an unspoken respect for the wait: food here isn’t rushed, but made fresh, buzzing with the promise of that first crispy bite.

The atmosphere is straightforward and honest, a warm intersection of casual conversations and the steady shuffle of customers picking up their favorites. It’s not the sort of spot to linger over long conversations, but one where the familiar faces and friendly nods form the backbone of its charm. Patrons come knowing exactly what they’re after—a chicken box that tastes of home, perfectly seasoned wings with a side of crispy fries, or a sandwich that carries quiet reverence for classic flavors. There’s a rhythm to ordering here, a ritual of showing up, waiting for your number, and leaving with a comforting meal in hand.

Royal Carryout exudes an easygoing spirit rooted deeply in its community. Despite the steady stream of orders and occasional rush, the staff remain congenial and attentive, making efficiency feel personal rather than rushed. The care taken in each order shows it’s a place that values trust and tradition over fancy frills or flash. And while the exterior might feel unassuming, inside there’s a wealth of tastes that have been quietly satisfying locals for decades—each dish carrying a small story of shared memories, simple pleasures, and loyal repeat visits.

For those who know Royal Carryout, it’s not just about grabbing a quick bite; it’s about reconnecting with a piece of Baltimore’s everyday life. Whether you arrive hungry for the unmistakable crunch of fried chicken or the comforting warmth of a cheese-laden sandwich, you’ll leave feeling like you’ve been part of a local ritual — modest, sincere, and grounded in the everyday joy of great carryout done right.

I have been coming here since I was a kid. Truly a staple in the community. The food has always been consistent. The chicken box is a classic. Their cheesesteak is good also. The half n half is way too sweet though. But I love this carry out. Nostalgic for sure. And they will not make your food until you show up (assuming they have experienced many people not picking up orders).

Friendly staff. The food is made fresh, chicken box is their hit menu item. Salt, Pepper, and ketchup all over chicken box hits everytime. Their cheesesteaks are decent but would be alot better if they had a better sub roll. Sometimes they are really busy and recommend calling in. Its in the hood and sometimes too many people hanging out in front of the store and in front of Bryan's Chicken spot two doors down.

Royal Carryout is always busy. Order-taker is very courteous, efficient and accommodating. Hold on to the numbered ticket for your order as it is needed to release your order. All staff are very congenial. The store is clean. Menu has wide selection. There seems to be much hype about the special sauce. Many people asked for the special sauce for their orders.
